Delta passengers saw smoke filling their plane mid-air. Now, 'experts are taking a thorough look'

A Delta Air Lines flight made an emergency landing in Albuquerque after smoke spread in the cabin and the flight crew reported a problem with one of the plane’s engines.

There were 193 customers on board the Boeing 757 traveling from Atlanta to Los Angeles on Tuesday. The flight's crew reported “smoke in the cockpit and passenger cabin,” the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY.

Delta in a separate statement said the flight’s crew “also observed a performance issue with one of the aircraft’s two engines,” which caused the plane to divert to Albuquerque, landing at approximately 2:45 p.m. Delta said the flight continued on another aircraft later on Tuesday.

The airline declined to provide additional information on the cause of the smoke in the aircraft and the potential issue with the plane’s engine, as Delta “experts are taking a thorough look at the aircraft.”

Airline news:Man took magic mushrooms and then assaulted United flight attendants, authorities say

Mason Weiner, a passenger on the flight who tweeted video of smoky air in the plane's cabin, told NBC News “Everything was normal and then suddenly there was smoke in the cabin.”

"Someone started yelling there was a fire, but the flight attendants (in a very professional way) told everyone to chill, it wasn’t a fire, and keep seated," Weiner told the outlet.

There were no injuries associated with the flight. The FAA confirmed that it will investigate the incident.

Takeoff, Member of Rap Group Migos, Fatally Shot Outside Private Party in Houston, Police Say

CNN —

Takeoff, who was one-third of the platinum-selling rap group Migos, was shot and killed early Tuesday in Houston, Texas, a source close to the group confirmed to CNN. He was 28.

Police received a call of a shooting in progress around 2:34 a.m. local time, Houston Police Department Chief Troy Finner said at a news conference Tuesday. Officers arrived to the 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston where there was a private party and found a dead man at the scene.

Two other people – a 23-year-old man and 24-year-old woman – were also injured in the shooting and took themselves to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, said Sgt. Michael Arrington with police department’s homicide division.

Employees told police an argument took place after the party ended when a large group of people gathered at the front door area outside of the building, which led to the shooting. At least 40 people were at the scene at the time of the shooting, Finner said.

“A lot of people that were there fled the scene and did not stick around to give a statement,” Arrington said.

Finner identified the deceased man as Kirshnik Khari Ball, also known as Takeoff of the rap group Migos.

“I got many calls from Houston and outside of Houston, and everyone spoke of what a great young man he is, how peaceful he is, what a great artist (he is),” Finner said, later adding that Takeoff was very well respected and nonviolent.

“I would not expect him to be involved … We have no reason to believe that he was involved in anything criminal at the time,” Finner said.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said they have met with Takeoff’s mother.

“It doesn’t matter how famous you are. You may not be famous at all,” Turner said. “Anybody who loses his or her life is a life lost, and there are family members and friends who are grieving as a result.”

Hip-hop community reacts to Takeoff’s death

The news of Takeoff’s death was a blow to the hip-hop community, still recovering from the fatal shooting of rapper PnB Rock in September. Stars took to social media Tuesday to pay tribute and express their condolences over the death of Takeoff.

Gucci Mane, who recently collaborated with Takeoff on the track “Us vs. Them,” wrote on Instagram, “This broke my heart” upon learning the news.

Gucci Mane, who recently collaborated with Takeoff on the track “Us vs. Them,” wrote on Instagram, “This broke my heart” upon learning the news.

“This is horrible. From the tragedy of the death to the tragedy of there being a video of it online,” actress Keke Palmer shared on Instagram, referring to a video that appears to show the deceased rapper in the moments after he was shot. “It’s all just tragic and I am so sorry to his whole family and all he touched. Really terrible.”

Rapper Ja Rule aired his grievances about Takeoff’s violent death on Twitter, writing, “this sh*t has to STOP … sending love to friends and family.”

The Atlanta Falcons also released a statement on Twitter.

“Takeoff’s legacy lives on in Atlanta and across the world,” the team tweeted.

Migos burst on the scene in 2013

Born in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Takeoff began performing with his uncle and fellow rapper Quavo, along with Offset, as Migos in 2008. The trio found fame with their 2013 single, “Versace.”

Their success only increased in 2016 with the release of their hit “Bad and Boujee,” which featured fellow recording artist Lil Uzi Vert.

The single quickly became an internet sensation, giving birth to a multitude of memes that played off the lyrics “rain drop, drop top.”

The song got an even bigger boost after “Atlanta” creator and star Donald Glover name-dropped the single during an acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

“I really wanna thank the Migos, not for being in the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee,’” Glover said at the time. “Like that’s the best song ever.”

Takeoff and Quavo recently formed the duo “Unc & Phew” and released their debut album, “Only Built for Infinity Links,” on October 7.

The music video for their song “Messy” was released on Monday.

During a recent conversation on the podcast “Drink Champs” just days before his death, Takeoff accepted accolades for his stellar performance on the new project.

“It’s time to pop it, you know what I mean? It’s time to give me my flowers, you know what I mean?, Takeoff said. “I don’t want them later on when I ain’t here.”

Myles Turner: Lakers should take 'hard look' at potential trade with Pacers

Although the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers stepped away from trade talks shortly before training camp that involved Russell Westbrook and draft capital going to Indiana for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield, the Pacers center says it's a deal that could be worth revisiting.

"If I'm the Lakers, I take a very hard look at this with the position that you're in," Turner said, responding to a question about the potential swap as a guest on ESPN's "The Woj Pod" with Adrian Wojnarowski. "I know what I can provide for a team -- my leadership, my shot-blocking, my 3-point ability and just my ability to make plays out there on the floor.

"And I take a very long look at it. But as far as pulling the trigger, I get paid to shoot. I'm not paid to make these calls, so I couldn't answer that."

The Lakers have been reluctant to include both their future first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 to upgrade the current roster with the hope of putting LeBron James and Anthony Davis back in position to contend for a championship.

"We all know picks are so valuable in this league, and someone like myself, I'm heading into the last year of my deal and you want to make sure you're getting a return for your assets," Turner added.

Turner, a 26-year-old center in his eighth season with Indiana, has career averages of 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, while shooting 34.9% from 3. Hield, a former client of Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka during Pelinka's days as a player agent, has connected on 43% of his outside shots in seven seasons with New Orleans, Sacramento and Indiana.

Even with a 13-for-30 showing from the outside in their first win of the season on Sunday, the Lakers still rank dead last in the league in 3-point shooting at 26.6% as a team. And with only role players available to play center, Damian Jones and Wenyen Gabriel, Davis has been tasked to play the starting 5, even though he is battling lower back pain and has historically preferred the 4.

Wojnarowski reported earlier this month that the Lakers plan to reassess the roster after approximately 20 games and could look to reengage in trade talks around Thanksgiving.

Turner, who has played his entire career in small-market Indianapolis, said joining a marquee team like the Lakers would be appealing.

"I just feel like here in the Midwest we don't get the love that I think we deserve. ... It doesn't get taken on the national level," Turner said. "You are under the microscope out there at the West. When you are doing bad, you're going to hear about it. When you are doing great, you are going to get a lot of love, especially with the love that the Lakers get.

"I think that another aspect that is [appealing is] playing with greatness and playing under LeBron. I feel like he demands a certain level of excellency, especially at this point of his career. It's just one of those things; when you are out there, you got to perform. People are going to expect you to go out there and hold on to that legacy that the Lakers have built over the years."

Indiana has started the season 3-4. The Lakers are 1-5.

Twitter Polls For Musk: Bringing Back TikTok Precursor Vine

Elon Musk has started a poll on Twitter Inc. asking users whether he should bring back short-video app Vine, which was shut down by the social media platform in 2016. The CEO of Tesla Inc. had promised last week that he would do anything to save the app from extinction.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has run several polls on Twitter, including one that asked whether he should sell a portion of his stake in Tesla Inc. and another poll asking if the platform should include an edit button to allow users to edit their posts before they make them public. The polls, however, appeared to be too simplistic to accurately reflect the opinions of Tesla’s nearly 300 million unique monthly active users (MAUs).

Twitter bought Vine in 2012 and it helped a raft of internet stars get noticed by a wider audience. Those creators eventually left the platform over disagreements over compensation. It was then shut after Twitter was unwilling to continue investing in the app.

According to New York time report, the response has been overwhelming, with more than 700,000 users voting in the Vine poll. With more than 72% of votes coming in so far, it’s clear that people are welcoming access to their favorite Vines and other Shortform content in a powerful new way. According to New

Elon Musk Will Have To Pay $40 Million For His Lawsuit Against Former Twitter Executives

Elon Musk fired 3 Twitter executives. And it could cost him $187 million: A blog about Elon musk firing the three Twitter executives and the consequences of doing so.

The Inside Scoop on Elon's Takeover at Tesla: Parag Agrawal, Ned Segal, Vijaya Gadde Out as All Shares Now Held by Musk: A blog about what happened with the oustings.

No matter what happens here, the people who are left on board with Musk will still get paid out. They’ll receive a large chunk of that money even if they had stayed on board under the new ownership – they and other shareholders will receive payouts from Musk after he bought their shares for $54.20 each.

Musk poured millions of his own money into the deal. Agrawal, who only assumed CEO title a little less than a year ago, had the smallest stock holdings of the three: 155,000 shares worth $8.4 million at the price Musk paid.

"Golden Parachute Compensation" is also part of the agreement, which was approved by shareholders when they merged their companies earlier this year. They include a year's base pay, worth between $1 million and $1.5 million each for Agrawal, Segal, and Gadde. Each of them also gets health insurance worth about $73,000 per person in total—just under the threshold where they're required to pay taxes on it.

An interesting feature of the settlement with Helios is the accelerated vesting of stock they stood to receive in the future but had not yet qualified for. That will end up being worth $56.4 million for Agrawal, $43.8 million for Segal, and $19.4 million for Gadde. Agrawal and Segal get the accelerated vesting of all of their shares while Gadde gets the accelerated vesting of only half of her shares.
